NEW Adult/Child: Day of the Dead

Grades: 1st - 12th with an Adult. Dia de los Muertos is a joyful holiday traditionally celebrated on November 1st or 2nd and involves people gathering to pay respects to remember family & friends that have died. It has become part of celebrations around Halloween. These celebrations are often humorous with people sharing funny stories about the departed. Learn about the history of this celebration, as we explore activities related to this holiday. You will have the opportunity to make a "calavera," or sugar skull, and be provided with resources for other activities associated with the Day of the Dead. Materials fee: $3 (cash only) due to the instructor at the beginning of class. The workshop is for ages 6+ and their families & perfect for you & your crafty tween or teen. NEW Adult/Child: Ghoulish Goodies Cookie Decorating Workshop

Grades: 1st - 8th with an Adult. Looking for a spooky and sweet way to celebrate Halloween? Join us for our Halloween-themed adult and child cookie decorating class! During this hands-on workshop, you and your child will have the opportunity to decorate a variety of Halloween-themed cookies with colorful icing, edible decorations, and festive designs. Our experienced instructor will guide you through the process, offering tips and tricks for creating beautifully decorated treats. Workshop will include: One Cookie Colab Signature Cookie to eat, 4 cookies to decorate, Box/packaging to transport cookies, Use of any tools needed for decorating (piping tips, Toothpicks, decorating stick, glitter, etc), Cookie Colab sticker and staged place setting to take a photo. If the adult would like to decorate their own set of 4 cookies, please sign up as an additional person. Instructor: Amy Lugo from Cookie Colab. 1 class.

Grades: 1st - 3rd. Dancers will learn lively dances from Europe, Asia, Central and South America, as well as from the American South in this spirited class. You will learn safe and creative ways to warm up, and fun ways of working with duet partners, small groups and large circle dances. Bachata, Texas Two-Step, Cotton-eyed Joe, Hula, and the Tarantella are some of the styles you will learn. A wide range of music, dance games, and exciting props enrich our dance learning. Have fun and stretch your imagination with dance friends. No special shoes are required, but socks that can be removed are a help. Ms. Sears, is a polished educator with a professional dance and somatics career, a former dance professor, and adjudicator for the MYAF. 7 classes. No class 10/16. Meet our Instructor: Ms. Christina-Marie Sears has performed in many professional ballets, including the Nutcracker, Nutcracker Follies, Sleeping Beauty, Danzon, and has choreographed many fun contemporary ballets, including The Legend of Spider Man, and Elegies for the Jackson School of the Arts Youth Dance Company. Christina Marie is a polished educator with a professional dance and somatics career, a former dance professor, and adjudicator for the MYAF.

Ages: 6 - 9 years without an Adult. Inspired by the multi-age dance company this class emphasizes creativity and collaboration in dance, art and poetry. Building on basic dance skills the class creates dances, costume elements and poems for at least one performance onsite and another in studio. Celebrating the individual and the group, BDDT supports the physical, artistic and emotional growth with a healthy dose of silly in the mix. Lesley holds degrees in Children’s Dance and English Literature and is excited to continue her Blue Dragon Dance Theater tradition with your child. Instructor: Lesley Criscenti. 10 classes. Ages: 10+ with an Adult. Please register in the child’s name. With all safety measures in place, this workshop will teach basic knife skills through hands-on learning. Our chefs will teach the necessary knife skills to set every young child up for success. During this workshop, learn proper technique to safely cut and peel a variety of vegetables in order to prepare Stir Fry and Fruit Crisp. All food and equipment will be provided. Price includes one adult and one child who MUST be at least 10 years old. Instructor: Chartwells Staff. 1 class.

Projects include a drawstring bag and pajama pants. The adult and child will share a sewing machine and workspace during class, taking turns "teaching" and reminding each other of safety and steps. Sewing machines and basic supplies will be provided. Materials list will be provided at the first class session. Instructor: Elise Blaauw. 6 classes. No class 10/12.

Adult/Child: Exploring Clay Together

Grades: K - 6th with an Adult. Fee is per pair. Adults and children learn classical techniques of tile making, slab construction, sculpture, press molding, coiling, and glazing. This class is NOT structured in such a way that everyone makes the same thing iin each session (i.e. a pinch pot, a bowl, etc.). Each participant will decide on their own projects and the instructor will advise on the best way to construct the piece. Children will not be able to use the wheel in this class. Fee includes glazing and firing of 3-6 medium to large pieces and material costs. Each pair receives one 25lb bag of clay per session. 100% scholarship recipients pay $55 (needed for cost of supplies). Additional clay can be purchased from Rovin Ceramics. Instructor: Mae Huynh. 10 classes. No class 10/13.

Grades: 4th - 8th with an Adult. Please register in child's name. Join us for a delightful family woodworking class where creativity meets craftsmanship! In this hands-on workshop, together you will craft a charming wooden gingerbread house, perfect for the holiday season or as a year-round decoration. While exploring the basics of woodworking under the guidance of our skilled instructors, you'll learn essential skills such as measuring, sawing, chiseling, and assembling, as you work side by side to bring your unique gingerbread house design to life. Throughout the class, you and your child will: Discover the joy of woodworking and gain confidence in using tools Collaborate on the design Make lasting memories while fostering teamwork and creativity At the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with your finished wooden gingerbread house, ready to be adorned with your favorite decorations. Who Can Attend: This class is designed for children grades 4th - 8th, accompanied by an adult. No prior woodworking experience is necessary - just a willingness to learn and have fun! Developmentally appropriate poses, games, breathing, and meditation techniques will be practiced to build body awareness, release energy, and experience relaxation. Yogi Carl brings 17+ years experience as a certified personal trainer and yoga teacher for all ages. Bring a yoga mat and plan on a fun and zen Sunday afternoon. Instructor: Carl Gunderson of Simply Holistic Fitness & Wellness. 8 classes. No class 10/13 and 12/1. 100% scholarship recipients pay $10.

Adult/Child: Let's Sew Together Level 2

10/20/24 - 11/24/24​

Grades: 1st - 6th with an Adult. This class builds off of the Adult-Child level one class and introduces new skills and fabrics. Students will be given a choice between two projects with the option to complete both if time allows. The backpack project will teach students about zippers, buttons, and 3D shapes, while the knit t-shirt will teach students how to use a standard garment pattern while working with stretch fabrics. Both child and adult are expected to have basic sewing skills, including threading, using seam allowances, and sewing both straight and curved lines. Sewing machines and basic supplies will be provided. Instructor: Elise Blaauw. 6 classes.
